An ancient being, custom made by the Scribes for a family of powerful mages. His purpose was to record the family's history. He was also the subject of (willing) experiments to determine how a Vido could be changed after generation. He was known only by his title, Guardian of the Chayhauqe, which was typically shortened to Chayhauqe or Guardian/The Guardian.

He remembers the Scribes disappearance and the beginning of the Blackout, during which he hibernated under orders from the family. The family's magic nearly died out but recovered after the Blackout, and he was reawakened by the head of the family at that time. He continued to record the family history, though there is a large section missing during the Blackout, and turned to serving as a personal bodyguard to the head of the family. Without the Scribes, there was no one to record the results of the Flux experiments and further edits to his appearance were largely cosmetic and followed fashion fads at the time.

These frequent changes caused his magic to corrupt faster and by modern era, his advanced age and speed of corruption means that he can not leave a shrine without a purger.

The family slowly dissolves due to infighting and strict traditions, leaving their estates empty. Chayhauqe hibernates upon a shrine built on the main estate until a member of a long forgotten and banished line inherits them. The inheritor, a purger named Xochitl, accidentally purges him while inspecting the shrine, thinking that he's a statue. This allows him to wake from his hibernation and after a brief scare, they become fast friends.

The estate is burned by anti-Vido dissenters and the two begin to travel, purging Vido and areas. It becomes Xochitl's life mission to see the Warplands purged of corruption. They travel together for over a century before finally, as the last bit of corruption is purged from the Warplands, they both retire and pass on.
